Reading Hospital’s Berks Trail Challenge, an initiative that encourages residents to stay active and explore the region’s trail system, returned this month and will continue through October.
Organized by the hospital’s Community Wellness Department, the Berks Trail Challenge is a free, community-based program designed to promote physical activity and connection with nature.
This year’s challenge highlights six local trails at popular locations, including the Reading Public Museum, Nolde Forest, Blue Marsh Lake, and more. The trails range in length and difficulty, making the challenge accessible to individuals and families of all ages and fitness levels.
Participants can register at TowerHealth.org/btc and download a Trail Challenge Card to track their progress. The card also provides information on terrain, distance, and other opportunities to explore additional trails.
Each trail has a unique symbol that can be drawn or described on the Trail Challenge Card. Participants who complete six trail visits by Saturday, Oct. 31, and submit their card by Friday, Nov. 6, are eligible to win a prize.
In addition to self-guided participation, the Berks Trail Challenge also features five guided hikes in partnerships with local organizations to offer participants an opportunity to learn more about the area’s natural resources while engaging in a group activity. Two guided hikes will be provided in English and Spanish.
The first guided hike will be held this Saturday, May 23, at 9 a.m., at Berks Parks and Recreation’s Union Canal Trail. The second guided hike will be held on Saturday, June 6, at Natural Lands Green Hills Preserve. Participation in guided hikes is not a requirement to be eligible for a prize.
