From Berks Sinfonietta
Berks Sinfonietta will spotlight two of Berks County’s most accomplished homegrown student musicians at its annual Scholarship Competition Concert on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 7:30 p.m., at Atonement Lutheran Church in Wyomissing.
Prior to the performance, audiences are invited to Judy’s on Cherry on Thursday, Aug. 20, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., for a special fundraiser event, Pasta with a Performance. Diners will have the opportunity to hear two student soloist performances during the Chef’s Feature Pasta night, and 10% of the proceeds will be donated to next year’s scholarship fund. Grace Campling will perform on the double bass, and Jillian Crotty on the French Horn. Reservations for the event are highly recommended, and more information can be found here.
“We are absolutely thrilled to host Pasta with a Performance in support of Berks Sinfonietta’s 2027 scholarship fund,” said Karlee, General Manager of Judy’s On Cherry & The Speckled Hen. “The arts are a vital piece of education that builds discipline, empathy, and community connection. We want to do our part to give back to the students in our local communities, and by combining great food with incredible music, we aim to increase the amount of money in next year’s scholarship fund so these local students can continue to pursue their musical journeys.”
Selected from a talented field of local student musicians, Joshua Griffith will perform the first movement of Antonín Dvořák’s Cello Concerto, and Grace Campling will perform the first two movements of Serge Koussevitzky’s Concerto for Double Bass. Each student will receive a $500 scholarship in recognition of their achievement and will perform with Berks Sinfonietta during the orchestra’s Aug. 22 concert. This year’s scholarship award and performance are being underwritten by the generous support of Customers’ Bank and the Reading Musical Foundation.
