From Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County
More than 400 participants, supporters, volunteers, and community members gathered on Sunday, Sept. 13, at Gring’s Mill Recreation Center for the 12th Annual Hear Our Voices: Team Holly 5K Run & Walk, benefiting Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County (BCSS).
The annual event raised over $45,000 to support BCSS programs and services, which are provided free of charge to individuals and families affected by breast cancer throughout Berks County.
The event honors the memory of Holly Sibley Lamont, a beloved teacher, wife, mother, and friend who turned to BCSS for support during her breast cancer journey. Holly participated in the first Hear Our Voices event in 2014, just two months before her passing. Her family and friends continue to carry on her legacy by bringing the community together each year to raise funds and awareness for others facing breast cancer.
“Every year, this event reminds us of the incredible strength of our community and the importance of making sure no one faces breast cancer alone,” said Michele M. Reinert, CFRE, Executive Director of BCSS. “Holly’s story continues to inspire us, and we are grateful to everyone who came together to honor her memory while helping BCSS provide hope, support, education, and resources to local individuals and families affected by breast cancer.”
Participants had the opportunity to take part in the 5K Run or Walk while enjoying a morning filled with family-friendly activities, including rock painting, face painting, games, raffle prizes, refreshments, and vendor tables. The event also featured music and entertainment by Sir Hamilton Newton, along with awards recognizing the top runners.
