From Visions Federal Credit Union
Visions Federal Credit Union announced on Thursday, Sept. 24, the launch of a new Spanish-language radionovela campaign in Reading, PA, created to connect local Hispanic and Latino audiences with approachable and culturally relevant financial education and services. The campaign will air for 12 weeks beginning Oct. 1 on Centro Hispano’s radio station, WXAC, 91.3 FM.
Through an entertaining serialized audio story that combines melodrama, comedy, and familiar telenovela-inspired twists, the campaign will introduce listeners to everyday financial topics — from managing a budget and establishing credit to opening accounts, using mobile banking, and exploring options for personal, auto, home, and small business lending.
“Financial decisions can feel overwhelming, especially when the information does not reflect people’s experiences, language, or goals,” said Tim Strong, AVP Branding & Community Impact. “This campaign is designed to meet people in a trusted community space, in Spanish, with stories that are engaging, relatable, and useful. At Visions, we believe financial education and opportunity should be accessible to everyone.”
Why Reading?
Reading was selected for the launch because it is home to one of Pennsylvania’s largest and most vibrant Hispanic and Latino communities. Hispanic or Latino residents comprise 70.8% of Reading’s population, making the city an especially meaningful place for a campaign that centers Spanish-language communication, cultural relevance, and financial empowerment.
Centro Hispano serves as a trusted local resource connecting the Reading and Berks County community with education, employment, legal support, and other essential services. Partnering through Centro Hispano’s radio platform gives Visions an opportunity to share information in a setting that is familiar, community-oriented, and accessible to listeners where they live, work, and make important decisions for their families.
Why a radionovela?
Radionovelas draw on a storytelling tradition that is deeply familiar across many Hispanic and Latino cultures. The Visions campaign brings that tradition into a contemporary format, using memorable characters, humor, and dramatic turns to make practical financial topics easier to understand and discuss.
Rather than delivering financial information as a conventional advertisement, the radionovela uses an ongoing, lighthearted story to illustrate how financial choices can affect real life. The series pays tribute to the beloved telenovela genre while offering a playful, self-aware take on its larger-than-life characters and plot twists.
Why Visions and Centro Hispano?
Visions, in partnership with Centro Hispano, is launching the campaign as part of its ongoing commitment to advancing financial well-being in the local Hispanic community. The credit union provides free financial education resources for members and nonmembers, with programming designed for people of all ages and backgrounds. Centro Hispano supports the ongoing development and growth of the local Hispanic community.
“Stories have the power to make complex subjects feel personal and judgment-free,” said Michael Toledo, President & CEO of Centro Hispano. “By bringing together culturally resonant entertainment and useful financial information, this campaign creates a welcoming way for community members to learn about resources that can help them and their families move forward.”
The Visions radionovela campaign will air on Centro Hispano’s radio station for 12 weeks, beginning Oct. 1, and all episodes will be available at es.visionsfcu.org/radionovela. Listeners can learn more about Visions Federal Credit Union’s financial education resources at visionsfcu.org/education.
