The Berks County Parks & Recreation Department continues to present programs promoting nature, history, and outdoor activity throughout the month of October 2026.

Friday, Oct. 9 | Cradle of Conservation: Book Talk w/ Dr. Allen Dieterich-Ward | 6 p.m. @ Gring’s Mill
Join Dr. Allen Dieterich-Ward, author, professor of history, and director of The Graduate School at Shippensburg University, as he guides us through an in-depth look at conservation history in Pennsylvania.

Tuesday, Oct. 13 | Trail Tales | 10 a.m. @ Gring’s Mill
Get wrapped up in a trail tale and discover plants and animal friends in our parks. This toddler-age program focuses on a nature topic each month, partnered with a story and a craft.

Sunday, Oct. 18 | Pennsylvania’s Early Settlers and the Supernatural | 2 p.m. @ Berks County Heritage Center
For fans of everything spooky, join Chester County History Center’s Educator, Jennifer Green, for this spooky lecture.

Wednesday, Oct. 21 | Junk Journaling | 6 p.m. @ Berks County Heritage Center
This is an open session-style class where journaling friends can gather.
Free. | Registration is required.

Sunday, Oct. 25 | Paper Plate Basket Workshop | Noon @ Berks County Heritage Center
Join Vicky Heffner as she returns to teach this basket-making workshop where students will create a basket that provides a sturdy way to display paper plates.
$5.00 registration fee plus $45.00 materials fee. | Registration is required.

Monday, Oct. 26 | Fall Full Moon Glow Hike | 6 p.m. @ Angora Fruit Farm
Berks Parks’ staff will guide a twilight hike on Antietam Lake Park’s forested trails by the light of glowsticks. This program is appropriate for children ages 7+ due to uneven terrain on the trail.

Saturday, Oct. 31 | Halloween Wellness Walk | 9 a.m. @ Berks Leisure
Family and friends, join Parks staff as we get out on the Union Canal Trail to enjoy an hour-long brisk walk to observe fall foliage with like-minded friends.
Free. | Registration is suggested.
