From Schuylkill River Greenways
Cyclists can enjoy a scenic ride on the Schuylkill River Trail while supporting the river and trail at Schuylkill River Greenways’ annual Ride for the River on Saturday, Sept. 19.
The event will begin and end at Pottstown Riverfront Park, 140 College Drive, Pottstown, with riders choosing from ride lengths designed for a range of ages and cycling experience.
Ride for the River is one of Schuylkill River Greenways’ largest annual fundraisers. Since its launch in 2014, the event has brought hundreds of cyclists to the Schuylkill River Trail while raising money to support SRG’s work to protect, improve, and connect the Schuylkill River, its trail, and the communities along them.
“Ride for the River gives people a chance to experience the Schuylkill River Trail while directly supporting the work that keeps the river and trail strong,” said Elaine Paul Schaefer, Executive Director of Schuylkill River Greenways. “Whether someone is an experienced cyclist or just wants to spend a little time riding with family and friends, we want this to be an event where everyone can enjoy the trail and feel connected to the river.”
This year, participants can choose among three rides:
37-Mile Ride — 9 a.m.
The longest option takes riders from Pottstown toward Reading and back, offering an extended trip along the Schuylkill River corridor.
15-Mile Ride — 9:15 a.m.
A shorter option for cyclists who want to experience the trail without committing to the full-distance ride.
4-Mile Family Fun Ride — 9:20 a.m.
A relaxed ride designed for families and those looking for a shorter outing on the trail.
Following the rides, participants are invited to stick around at Pottstown Riverfront Park for an afterparty with Sly Fox Brewing Company, Handel’s Ice Cream, and other local businesses.
Ride for the River has become an annual tradition for many participants and also serves as an introduction to the Schuylkill River Trail and Schuylkill River Greenways for first-time riders.
Proceeds support SRG’s work throughout the Schuylkill River Heritage Area, including maintaining and improving the Schuylkill River Trail, protecting the river and watershed, connecting communities to the region’s natural and cultural resources, and expanding opportunities for outdoor recreation.
