Scott Kingery named Eastern League Player of the Week

(Reading, Pa) – The Eastern League has announced that Reading Fightin Phils second baseman Scott Kingery has been named Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of May 15th – May 21st.  Kingery joins Fightin Phils pitcher Drew Anderson in receiving such an honor from the league.

Kingery hit .300 (9-for-30) with one double, five home runs, six RBIs, nine runs scored, one stolen base, one walk and a .833 slugging percentage in six games for the Fightin Phils this past week.  He currently leads the Eastern League in home runs (13), extra-base hits (25), total bases (99) and slugging percentage (.651). 

The Phoenix, Arizona native reached base in all six games that he played last week and had multiple hits in three of those games, including a pair of two-homer performances on May 19th and May 21st against New Hampshire.  He has scored 40 runs and hit 13 home runs this season in 38 games is on pace for 47 home runs and 147 runs.  The team record for runs is 111 by Bob Dernier in 1980.  Dylan Cozens set the single-season home run record last season with 40.   

Kingery, who is rated by MLB.com as the 11th best prospect in the Philadelphia organization, was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the second round of the 2015 draft out of the University of Arizona.
