Wyomissing Public Library 2017 Summer Learning Program

The Wyomissing Public Library will kick off the 2017 Summer Learning Program on Monday, June 12 at 6:00 PM with a special interactive presentation by the Yocum Institute using recycling items to “Build a Better World,” the theme of this year’s program.

The 10-week program, which will run from June 12th until August 19th, is designed to promote the joy of reading and learning during summer vacation and diminish the effects of summer brain drain. There will be special programs for pre-k through 12th grade.

Fireside Fairytales will begin on Tuesday, June 13 at 7:00 PM for five weeks for ages 3 and up. Children can wear their pajamas to the library if they like and listen to some old fairytales and new versions of some classics. No registration is required for this program.

A new storytime, Play-K, will begin on June 21 at 3:00 PM. This program is designed for children who will enter Kindergarten in the Fall. It is an early literacy initiative that promotes school readiness within the library setting. Children will participate in a school-like circle time experience that includes stories, socialization and play, while parents can explore the library. Registration is required for this program.

From June 22 through August 17th children in grades K-3 are encouraged to participate in the PA Young Reader’s Choice Awards Storytime every Thursday at 4:00 PM. This storytime will feature books nominated for the PYRCA, and were selected by school librarians as the very best among those published the previous year. Registration is not required for this program.

From June 21 until July 26, there will be a Reading Olympics Book Club meeting for students in grades 4 & 5 every Wednesday at 4 :00 PM. Registration is required for the book club, and may be done at www.wyopublib.org.
