Grove Dental Group Gives Free Custom-Fitted Mouthguards to Berks County Schools

Jul 25, 2017 • by Grove Dental Group
As a concerned parent of student athletes, Dr. Jeff has repeatedly experienced the lack of protection that ordinary, “boil-and-bite” mouthguards offer to youth.

Through their new Sportsguard Program, the Wyomissing-based dental practice offers free protection for sports teams at local schools with custom-fitted mouthguards.

(Wyomissing, PA)- To prevent concussions and other sports-related injuries, Dr. Jeffrey Grove and the team at Grove Dental Group are creating free custom-fitted mouthguards for all school sports teams within Berks County.

To stop this widespread safety issue for young sports players in the local community, Dr. Jeffrey Grove and the rest of the team at Grove Dental created the Sportsguard Program. Through this new program, Grove Dental partners with all local schools districts within Berks County to create dual-layered, custom-fitted mouthguards for student athletes. All of the provided mouthguards – or, “sportsguards” – are completely free. Grove Dental does not charge any amount to any person for this dental protection of Berks County’s youth. The dental practice offers the following colors to match each local team’s school colors:

ClearWhiteRedGreenDark BlueBlack

Athletic directors, coaches, and team coordinators are the main contacts for Grove Dental’s new Sportsguard Program. Upon an in-person or on-the-phone request, athletic directors and coaches are free to set up the quick and easy process to get free mouthguards for their sports teams. Team representatives will be able to choose an available Saturday on which to bring an entire sports team into Grove Dental’s offices and create impressions for the sportsguards. Impressions require up to 30 minutes. If a group-appointment is not feasible, individual sports players are welcome to receive impressions. Simply call to confirm the day and time that players will be arriving at Grove Dental’s offices.

Grove Dental’s team uses a specialized machine in their offices to form an entire team’s sportsguards within one week from the taking of athletes’ impressions. Team representatives are welcome to pick up their players’ new sportsguards and distribute them at meetings or practices.

As a concerned parent of student athletes, Dr. Jeff has repeatedly experienced the lack of protection that ordinary, “boil-and-bite” mouthguards offer to youth. While these are quite popular for sports players, they do not adequately protect against sports-related injuries. This is because they are not truly molded to an athlete’s teeth or gums. Additionally, these are not solutions for sports players that wear braces or other orthodontic products. This lack of dental protection not only exposes student athletes to oral injuries but also head- and face-injuries during football, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, soccer, and other common sports.

To see the promising results of the community-driven program, Grove Dental’s team highly encourages parents and student athletes to share posts and pictures of their sportsguards via Facebook and Twitter with the hashtag, #GroveGives. Hear more about the program via Grove Dental’s blog.
