Rebuilding Reentrants and Reading

A new training program, Rebuilding Reentrants and Reading (R3), started at BCPS on October 2 and it’s been amazing to see it in action. Our first group of 14 participants are already hard at work and doing great! Following an orientation to meet the staff and instructors that will be working with them, the program participants began their six week training.

R3, funded by a U.S. Department of Labor Reentry Projects grant, will include evening classroom instruction at Reading Muhlenberg Career & Technology Center, hands-on learning which will occur on site at Habitat for Humanity Berks County properties and at Bemenn Custom Millwork, and an employment focused cognitive curriculum delivered by BCPS staff, Kip and Alexandra. R3 Site Supervisors, Mark and Jeff, are responsible for transporting program participants to varied educational and work locations, overseeing the work performed and communicating participants’ progress to case managers. Erin and Maddi, will case manage the participants and provide job search assistance for one year following their completion of the training program.

This comprehensive training program in the construction trades will allow returning citizens to give back to the community while obtaining marketable skills!
