Reading Public Library to receive $10,000 from “Home for Orphans of Odd Fellows of PA”

Reading, Pa – Art Weiler, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Home for Orphans of Odd Fellows of Pennsylvania, will deliver a check of $10,000 on Friday, May 18 to Reading Public Library to support a variety of youth literacy programming. The Independent Order of Odd Fellows is a non-political, non-sectarian international organization dedicated to the ethic of reciprocity and philanthropy.  This is the first gift received by Reading Public Library from this organization.

The grant will be used to fund the Franklin Institute’s traveling program “Sound, Music, and Math” at each of our library branches during Summer@RPL.  In addition, it will provide Kindle readers to share with young patrons and will support the addition of a dedicated Youth Services S.T.E.A.M coordinator for the remainder of 2018.

According to RPL’s Executive Director, Bronwen Gamble, “We were thrilled to be approached by a representative of this fine organization that has put children’s well being at the forefront of its charity for many decades.  This grant will fund exciting initiatives that might not have been possible without the Odd Fellows stepping forward.”
