Nogara Souza and Konowal Named to 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District At-Large Team

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Courtney Konowal of the Kutztown University field hockey team and Gabriel Nogara Souza of the men’s tennis team were recently named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District 2 At-Large Teams for Division II men’s and women’s athletics as selected by the College Sports Information Directors Association of America (CoSIDA).

The Google Cloud Academic All-District At-Large teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

It is the second Academic All-District award for Konowal and first for Nogara Souza.

A four-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) selection, three-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete and two-year team captain, Konowal completed her career in the Maroon and Gold starting in all 73 games and collecting 12 goals and 12 assists from her midfield position.

A sport management major, Konowal has accumulated a 4.0 GPA, is a six-time Dean’s List honoree and three-time NFHCA Scholar of Distinction (3.9+ GPA). The career sweep of All-PSAC accolades recorded by Konowal is the first in four years at KU, an achievement last reached in 2013. The field hockey program won 41 games during Konowal’s four years as a starter.

Nogara Souza earned the PSAC men’s tennis Champion Scholar award. He is also a three-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete and has made the Dean’s List in each of his seven semesters as a Golden Bear, also earning two D2ADA Academic Achievement Awards. A business administration major, Nogara Souza holds a 3.86 GPA and is a member of the Kutztown University honors program.

On the court, the native of Brazil was selected as a 2017 Second Team All-PSAC performer in doubles and has been a starter since the time he stepped on campus.

With their All-District selections, Konowal and Nogara Souza will now be among those considered for the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with Academic All-America honorees to be announced in June.
