11th Annual Run4Sam

11th Annual Run4Sam

Sunday, August 19th

Registration begins at 8 am

Gring’s Mill

The 11th annual Run4Sam will be held this year on Sunday, August 19th at Gring’s Mill Recreation Area in memory of Samuel Brooklyn Reed.

Sam was an avid distance runner, both competitively and recreationally, and ran hundreds of miles on the Union Canal tow path along the Tulpehocken Creek where the race will be held. His life was ended too soon by a hit and run, drunk driver on September 1, 2007 while he was a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh.

Proceeds from the race provide a scholarship for a deserving, college bound high school student. The Samuel Brooklyn Reed Memorial Scholarship is managed by the Berks County Community Foundation

In addition to the scholarship, funding also supports a perpetual naturalization and reforestation project along the running trail at Gring’s Mill Park. Donations are also given to several local charities and non-profits annually.

All participants can register on the day of the race beginning at 8 am. The 4-mile and 10K races will begin at 9:30, the 2-mile walk will begin at 9:45, and the Kids 12-and-under Fun Run/walk (about 1,600 feet) will begin following the race. Pre-register with friends, family, or co-workers, in teams of 5 or more, for a discount on race entry fees and chances to win great team prizes.

All individuals participating will receive Run4Sam T-shirts while supplies last and all children will get a goodie-bag. There will be refreshments available, door prizes, awards for winning runners, raffle prizes, and awesome Run4Sam merchandise for sale. See registration sheets (left) for more information.

The race application and directions to the park can be found on www.run4sam.net.  Questions can be directed to [email protected].  Gring’s Mill Recreation Area is located at 2141 Tulpehocken Road, Wyomissing, PA 19610.
