The video game “Spider-Man” for PlayStation 4 was released on September 7, 2018. Since then it has become the fastest selling PS4 game of the year, selling 3.3 million copies within the first three days of release according to gamespot.com. This game is absolutely incredible in every way and it provides everything you could ask for in a comic book character-based video game.
The storyline of the Spider-Man video game for PS4 is one that keeps you interested and honestly creates a small emotional attachment for the player. It is so in depth that playing the game causes the player to gain an emotional attachment to some of the characters. It is very similar to watching a movie where you feel like you are involved because of how tied-in you become. This is the case in such a strong way that when a plot twist comes in, you almost do not know how to react because you feel like it is happening in your life. For a video game to create this effect is almost unheard of, at least to me.
One of the main strengths that this game contains is the absolutely massive open-world map. This basically means that the area that is playable is so incredibly large. You can explore this map freely and complete small side missions that gain you XP and other different achievements. The detail that was put into this map is absolutely incredible. There are small details that relate to other Marvel comic book characters. The makers of the game, a company by the name of Insomniac, put the Avengers tower in the game. This was a huge deal as it creates a possibility for future video games containing the Avengers. There were also other smaller references that brought in characters like Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Overall, the sheer size and detail of the map is one of the greatest aspects of this game.
The graphics of this game are absolutely incredible as well. The breathtaking views that you can see from the tops of many tall buildings are so detailed and simply amazing. During game play the graphics are very good, however the cut scenes are what really shine. The quality of the graphics during these scenes really just add to the realistic effect that this game already has. The detail in Spider-Man’s suits is great as well and creates a great visual for the player.
A smaller aspect of the game that really is tailored to a strong comic book lover is the many suits that you can earn. Before the game was released, Insomniac came out with an announcement that you could unlock three exclusive suits if you pre-ordered the video game. This created another reason for many people to buy and specifically pre-order the game. In the comics, Spider-Man has such an extensive number of suits that someone buying this game could only imagine the possibilities. The game has many suits that you can earn throughout and many more to come.
You may ask, how can more suits be coming if the game is already completed? Well, one of the greatest things about this game is that it is never really completed. Insomniac has announced that they will be releasing extensive future DLC content for the game. This means that new missions, stories, and suits will all be released in the future. The next DLC was released in October of 2018 and there will be more to come in the future.
Spider-Man for PlayStation 4 is simply one of the most incredible video games that I have ever played. It is truly a dream come true for a comic book lover such as myself. From the beautiful graphics to the huge map and future additional gameplay, this game has the potential to be one of the greatest games ever made.
