Wilson West To Donate Holiday Baskets For McGlinn Cancer Institute Patients

West Reading, Pa. – On Friday, December 21, students from Wilson West Middle School will visit  McGlinn Cancer Institute at Reading Hospital to donate holiday baskets the school’s students, teachers, and staff have put together for patients and their families in need this holiday season.

This is the ninth year the school has donated holiday baskets, and it is truly a school-wide effort. The students hold special events to raise money for items for the baskets, as do the faculty, and staff. The school’s PTO contributes as well.

The baskets include items for a holiday meal, breakfast foods, diet-friendly items for the patients (such as ginger ale, saltines and applesauce), gift cards, Christmas CDs/DVDs, candles, candies, games, tablecloths, and paper goods. The list of items donates expands each year and new this year are “child friendly” items such as crayons, puzzles, and fuzzy socks.

The donation started as a collection among faculty and staff, and it has grown to include the students.

“Reading Hospital extends a big thank you to Wilson West students, faculty, and staff for supporting its patients. The students deserve special recognition for exhibiting compassion and generosity at such a young age,” said William M. Jennings, Reading Hospital President & CEO.
