St. Joseph starts weight loss surgery program, free talk March 20th

Reading, Pa. — Penn State Health St. Joseph is offering a free informational seminar for the public to learn about weight loss and weight loss procedures and about its new surgical weight loss program.

The free talk is set for Wednesday, March 20, at 5 p.m. in the Franciscan Room at Penn State Health St. Joseph’s Bern Township campus, 2500 Bernville Road.

Reservations are not required but can be made at 610-378-7900.

St. Joseph’s surgical weight loss program started with the arrival of Dr. Allison Barrett, a board certified surgeon specializing in weight loss surgery, from Northwell Health in Forest Hills, N.Y., where she served as the Director of Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Barrett completed her fellowship training at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, in advanced laparoscopy, endoscopy and bariatric surgery.  She attended medical school at Boston University School of Medicine and completed both an internship and residency in general surgery at the New York University (NYU) School of Medicine.

Dr. Barrett has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, and is the co-author and editor of a book about bariatric surgery which serves as a teaching tool for physicians throughout the U.S. She also speaks nationally about the topic of weight loss surgery.
