Reading, PA – Mayor Eddie Moran is excited to visit Reading neighborhoods, once again. In a joint effort to increase the Census response numbers, the mayor’s team declared Tuesday, July 21st, as Reading’s 2020 Census Day. For this event, Mayor Moran and City Council Members are visiting Reading’s low response rate neighborhoods. They hope residents will meet them at their doorsteps to answer questions and concerns related to the census and complete the census questionnaire on the spot. Census Bureau officials will accompany them to help residents file.
“It’s a new decade and a new day for Reading. I am working tirelessly to build a better Reading. I began my efforts with the four foundational pillars of my administration, which are: Safe Streets & Safe Neighborhoods, Education & Workforce Development, Community & Economic Development, and Responsible Leadership. Completing the 2020 Census is an essential part in obtaining the necessary funding to support our foundational pillars and reach our goals,” said Mayor Eddie Moran.
“When I was presented with the idea of a Census Day, I couldn’t think of a better way to connect with our residents. With me, I’ll have City Council Members and Census Bureau officials to address concerns and complete the questionnaire right then and there.”
In an effort to maintain health and safety measures, social distancing, masks and other measures will be enforced at all times. Officials will be available at City Park from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm to accommodate daytime workers and anyone else that would like to file.
In addition to the motorcade caravan, to meeting personally on neighborhoods, and to City Park, there are ten designated remote locations that will work as kiosks with officials and technology to help residents complete the Census.
