Local Youth Selected to Serve on International Youth Advisory Board

Karleigh Patton, 17, to represent Youth Volunteer Corps of Reading and Berks County

Reading, PA – A local youth was selected to serve on Youth Volunteer Corps’ (YVC) International Youth Advisory Board and to represent the local YVC on an international level. Karleigh Patton, a student at Exeter High School, has served as both a youth volunteer and a member of the Berks County Youth Advisory Board this past year. This summer, Karleigh was selected as one of 26 youth to serve on the International Youth Advisory Board.

“The International Youth Advisory Board is such a valuable part of YVC, so we look forward to seeing all that they will accomplish this year,” said David Battey, president and founder of YVC. “We love seeing all that can be achieved when outstanding youth from throughout the U.S. and Canada come together.”

Patton will serve a one-year term as an International Youth Advisory Board member providing input on all aspects of YVC programming on an international level while also bringing new ideas back to YVC in Berks County. Board meetings will take place remotely once a month throughout the academic year.

“I often hear Gandhi’s quote ‘Be the change you want to see in the world,’ and although I have always had a passion for helping others, the Youth Advisory Board of Berks County and my local YVC has given me the opportunity to live out this meaningful quote” said Patton. “I am honored to be selected to be a part of the International Youth Advisory Board because it will make me an even stronger leader and mentor. There is something very inspiring about working with peers who want to see change happen, especially knowing that every one of us can bring a unique perspective to accomplish something truly amazing.”

More than 5,000 youth volunteer with YVC each year throughout communities in the U.S. and Canada, and these 26 board members will be representing each of these volunteers on the board.
