West Reading, PA. – Mark B. Woodland, MS, MD, Chair, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Reading Hospital -Tower Health and Interim Academic Chair of OBGYN for Drexel University College of Medicine was named Chair, of the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine on October 27, 2020.

“I am thrilled that Dr. Woodland will serve as Chair of the State Board of Medicine,” William M. Jennings, Reading Hospital President and CEO said. “He is an instrumental member of the Reading Hospital team and a brilliant leader. His dedication to the practice of medicine, his patients, and medical education is unmatched. I know he will aspire to do great things for everyone in Pennsylvania while he serves in this important role.”

The State Board of Medicine regulates the practice of medicine through the licensure, registration and certification of members of the medical profession in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Board regulates medical doctors; physician assistants; radiology technicians; respiratory therapists; nurse-midwives; acupuncturists; practitioners of oriental medicine; perfusionists; behavioral specialists; and athletic trainers. The Board also reviews the instruction and facilities at medical colleges and medical training facilities in accordance with state laws.

“I have been a member of the State Board of Medicine since early 2019,” Dr. Woodland said. “It is a privilege to now serve as Chair of this prestigious organization. I look forward to working with my colleagues across the state to continue to address the important health needs and concerns that affect our practitioners and patients and their families in the commonwealth.”

Dr. Woodland is a graduate of Ursinus College, Villanova University, and the George Washington University School of Medicine. He completed his internship at George Washington University Hospital and residency at Pennsylvania Hospital. He currently serves as immediate past Chair of the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). He has received numerous awards for excellence in medical education and clinical practice, and he serves on the editorial review boards of the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and American Journal of OBGYN. He is active in PA ACOG as an advocate for trainees and practitioners in women’s health and is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
