Mayor Eddie Moran Extends Preventative Measures at City Hall

City of Reading Mayor Eddie Morán issued the following statement:

“I hope that all residents of Reading enjoyed the Holiday season safely with their loved ones and that this message finds you well and healthy.

However, the number of infections continues to climb in Berks County and the City of Reading as the holiday season data is reported. On Monday, the Pennsylvania Department of Health Level of Community Transmission table showed that Berks County continues at substantial risk of community spread for the week ending on 1/18/2021.

Again, I do not make this decision lightly and have consulted with health professionals to, out of an abundance of caution, extend the closure of City Hall two more weeks until Monday, February 1st. All City Hall employees, except those listed as essential, are expected to continue to work from home during this time giving City services continuity.

With the initial phases of vaccinations beginning and the availability to our first responders and emergency personnel along with another rollout anticipated shortly, we are hopeful that the rates of infections will begin to drop significantly, allowing us to resume regular schedules at City Hall.

While this pandemic has impacted all of us in unimaginable ways, we are hopeful that the early part of 2021 will provide us with the much-needed “light at the end of the tunnel.”

Stay safe and remember: we are each other’s neighbors!”
