Kutztown University’s Department of Art and Design debuts this fall for current and prospective students. A merger of KU’s current Department of Art and Department of Communication Design, this retooled department will provide greater collaboration and additional resources to students and faculty.
Students will see no disruptions toward their current degrees, as course requirements and degree paths remain the same. The blend of Art and Design allows both students and faculty to work across departments, places an increased emphasis on the availability of available electives and increased resources with the shared use of equipment, facilities and personnel.
Students will also experience a more simplified course registration process, aiding in student success across the department.
Faculty within the Department of Art and Design will have increased opportunities to teach additional programs with greater ease, allowing for a widened scope for KU’s award-winning faculty.
Students interested in art have available majors of Applied Digital Arts, Art History, Communication Design and Studio Art, as well as minors in Art History and Studio Art. Students work closely with award-winning faculty who apply their expertise as professional artists, animators, designers and scholars to the classroom. Students are empowered to seek growth, exploration and social engagement through pathways for creative collaboration and interdisciplinary learning.
Internships, field trips to major museums, visiting speakers, film screenings and on-campus galleries provide further engagement with art, while grants and scholarships support additional study and opportunities. All four programs are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
