Anniversary Shindig to Celebrate 15 Years at the Exeter Community Library

The Exeter Community Library invites the community to join in celebrating fifteen years in the current building at 4569 Prestwick Drive. Originally located in the lower level of the Dunn Community Center in 1999, the library quickly outgrew the space and moved to its current location on November 4, 2006.

Throughout the past fifteen years, the collection of books, movies, magazines, dvds, and games has grown to fill the building, and the two program rooms have been utilized on thousands of occasions to host events and educational programs, as well as parties by the library and community alike. The library has even expanded outside of the building with the creation of its StoryWalk® and Little Free Library.

Now, the Exeter Community Library is hosting an Anniversary Shindig in appreciation of all who have made the library and its programming possible. The public is invited to stop in on Monday, November 15 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. to participate in raffles and win prizes while supplies last. Scratch-off tickets to win raffle items may be earned by checking out fifteen items. What does this mean for community members who don’t yet have a library card? The Anniversary Shindig is the perfect opportunity to sign up for a free card to check out items and earn a scratch-off ticket for prizes.

In the afternoon, the library also plans to offer free cupcakes from Kristin’s Peace of Cake and ice cream from The Cherry on Top. To receive free ice cream, patrons must visit the library between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. for a ‘free scoop ticket’ to present to The Cherry on Top. (Cupcakes and ice cream while supplies last.) Those who visit between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. will find the Friends of the Exeter Community Library in the program room, where they can learn more about what the Friends group does for the library and how they support the organization every day, every week – year-round. Upcoming events and regular programming will be featured.

Additionally, the library has teamed up with the Reading Royals for the hockey season. Kids ages 3 through 18 who participate in Slapshot’s Reading Program are eligible for a free ticket to a Reading Royals game. Children can fill out a reading log and return it to the Exeter Community Library to earn their free ticket. Reading Program Logs will be available starting November 15 at the Anniversary Shindig. Through the program, adults may also purchase discounted tickets to the same game.

The Exeter Community Library aims to serve the community as a center of learning, accessible recreation, practical tools, and hundreds of free programs designed for children and adults to participate in throughout the year. For information on any of the programs listed above or for hours of operation, visit www.berkslibraries.org/exeter. The library also encourages visits to their Facebook page for regular updates, raffles, information on upcoming outdoor book sales, Zoom log-in information for virtual programming, and more.
