Reading Area Community College (RACC) and Berks Catholic (BC) proudly announce a new partnership with the John Langan Berks Catholic to RACC Opportunity Scholarship Program. Berks Catholic students who decide to attend Reading Area Community College for their first two years of college will be eligible for the Langan Scholarship. In most cases, these students will be able to attend RACC for two years without tuition costs. Priority will be given to those students with the most significant economic need. Langan Scholars can either pursue an academic track or workforce training.

“RACC and Berks Catholic have always had a strong relationship in terms of providing access to a college education for Berks Catholic students. The Langan BC to RACC Opportunity Scholarship was the perfect next step in our work together,” says RACC VP for College Advancement & Executive Director of the Foundation, Anthony DeMarco.

Berks Catholic Head of School Bill Hess noted, “With the cost of higher education skyrocketing over the past decade, the Langan BC to RACC Opportunity Scholarship will be a godsend to those Berks Catholic families who, without the Langan Scholarship, may struggle to send their children to college. John Langan continues to provide our Berks Catholic students with remarkable educational opportunities.”

John Langan is one of the greatest philanthropists in the history of Reading Area Community College. John grew up on Front Street just steps from the campus. He attended St. Margaret’s School and Central Catholic High School. John’s career as an author and a publisher began during his time on the faculty of a number of community colleges. The synergy between Berks Catholic and RACC is a perfect convergence of two of John’s great passions.

“We are so grateful to John and his wife, Dr. Judith Nadell, for their remarkable philanthropy to RACC, Berks Catholic and St. Margaret’s,” says RACC President Dr. Susan Looney. “John is a great champion of providing educational opportunities for those without means. He is the exemplar.”

John Langan noted, “I believe education can lift our society. As former educators, my wife Judith and I are committed to providing an opportunity to an education for those without access to it. We’re looking forward to hearing from those Berks Catholic students who are able to attend RACC and achieve their academic goals.”
