Oley Villanova Student Receives Joseph & Peggy McMahon Transportation Scholarship

McMahon, a Bowman company focused on transportation engineering and planning, is pleased to announce that Andrew Kline, an engineering undergraduate student at Villanova University is the 2022 recipient of the Joseph and Peggy McMahon Transportation Engineering Scholarship. This scholarship award was competitively selected through the Berks County Community Foundation.

Established in 2018, the Joseph and Peggy McMahon Transportation Engineering Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance for college students who have demonstrated a commitment to transportation engineering as their chosen career, along with providing leadership and “giving back” through programs dedicated to helping individuals and communities served by the engineering industry.

Andrew Kline is ranked in the top 12% of his engineering peers, and has a diverse academic range with his additional pursuit of minors in business, sustainable engineering and real estate development to further help him assess and solve real-world problems.

In addition to Andrew’s academic success, and recognition by academic mentors for his diligence and motivation, Andrew stands out through his leadership commitments with his involvement in various Villanova student chapter activities. This includes being chapter Vice President of the American Society of Civil Engineers, College of Engineering Senator for Villanova University Student Government Association, Communications Director for Villanova Television, and appointments to the Student Life Community First Collaborative and Athletics Advisory Committee. He is also currently gaining important practical experience working as an intern in the PennDOT District 5-0 bridge unit.

Andrew has given back to his local community by volunteering to be the Judge of Elections for the Alsace Township 2nd Precinct, and has served as an Inspector of Elections. He has also volunteered for four years at the Oley Valley Community Fair.

“From a very young age, I decided that engineering was the right career path for me,” said Andrew Kline, Villanova University engineering student. “I have selected civil engineering because I feel like you can easily see the impacts that can be made on the communities you work in. I have found that transportation engineering, specifically, makes a clear impact on those communities through the development of roads, airports, rail systems and more. That’s what I hope to do with my career in this important profession.”

“This is our fourth year of providing assistance to deserving engineering students who are the future of our industry. This is also the second time we have been able to award this scholarship to a Villanova engineering program student. We are thrilled to see the world class engineering programs at Villanova attracting such outstanding students to its program,” said Joseph McMahon, P.E., Founder of McMahon Associates, Inc. “Though early in his academic pursuits in transportation engineering, Andrew has demonstrated an excitement for, and commitment to, the most important principles necessary for a successful career, a strong commitment to serving our communities. This is a key for someone in this industry. We can never lose sight of the impact that we can make to improve the safety of communities and our ability to enable structured growth with new transportation technologies. We look forward to seeing Andrew develop into a professional engineer and wish him continued success in his academic career.”

The Joseph and Peggy McMahon Transportation Engineering scholarship was created by the Board of Directors of McMahon Associates in tribute to the firm’s founder Joseph McMahon, and his wife, Peggy McMahon. The couple established McMahon in 1976 with a “Pay It Forward” dedication at its core, and this scholarship fund preserves their legacy and promotes that commitment into the future to support new engineering generations. The fund, established through the Berks County Community Foundation, provides scholarships to college students who have declared, and have been accepted into, the major of civil engineering with a focus on transportation engineering.
