Berks History Center’s Road Ramble Returns to Celebrate George M. Meiser, IX

Berks History Center (BHC) is excited to host its Fall 2022 Road Ramble on Saturday, October 22, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Road Ramble is a self-guided driving tour that allows the BHC to return to its past when Mystery Road Rambles were held in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The Fall 2022 Road Ramble is particularly special, as it celebrates renowned Berks County historian, George M. Meiser, IX. Mr. Meiser is well-known for his long-running newspaper series, The Passing Scene, which he authored with his wife, Gloria Jean. He also served as President of BHC (then the Historical Society of Berks County) from 1998 until 2011.

“We are incredibly excited about this year’s event,” said BHC Assistant Director, Bradley Smith. “The route of the Fall 2022 Road Ramble was developed with the assistance of George M. Meiser, IX. His many contributions will result in an extraordinary experience for all who participate.”

Starting at the Berks History Center, 940 Centre Ave, Reading, PA, participants will ramble through Leesport, Hamburg, Lenhartsville, Virginville, and Kempton. The route will highlight a blend of historic structures, scenic vistas, and locations associated with local folklore.

“This year’s Road Ramble ventures off the beaten path and features lesser-known but fascinating historic sites of north-central Berks County,” Smith continued. “The spectacular back-road vistas will surely amaze participants.”

The Fall 2022 Road Ramble concludes at the Albany Township Historical Society, where food will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit the Albany Township Historical Society and BHC.

Tickets for the Fall 2022 Road Ramble cost $35/car for BHC Members and $45/car for non-members and can be purchased online at www.berkshistory.org/event/fall-2022-road-ramble or by calling 610-375-4375. Tickets for the general public go on sale on August 3, 2022.
