During the summer of 2022, local artist Libby McGuire spent countless hours creating a beautiful red, white, and blue Americana-themed quilt, with the generous intention that it be raffled off to benefit Berks Community Television – and now it could be yours!

Libby and her husband Dan reside in Berks County and are beloved friends and longtime supporters of BCTV. For many years they served as volunteer committee members for the Octoberfest Auction by donating not only their time, but each year Libby has created beautiful collections of her handcrafted doll clothing sets, and baby blankets for BCTV to auction.  Libby carefully cuts the patterns, piecing and binding each square with mastery and love! Sewing is her lifelong passion, and she exhibits at local fairs and craft shows.  Mrs. McGuire noted, “We feel it is important to support  BCTV  because it provides such a wide variety of programs to support and enrich the people of our community.”

The quilt is Log Cabin blocks arranged in the Starlight pattern. Each fabric incorporates a different type of star design and features a beautiful, long-arm machine stitched star design throughout. Pieced and bound with affection and skill on the home machine of Mrs. McGuire, owner of Libby’s Sewing Trunk, the Americana Log Cabin Quilt is made with 100% cotton and has been prewashed for comfort and to avoid color bleed.

The overall dimensions are 96” x 96” and it fits a queen sized bed. The reverse side features an antique parchment colored ‘We The People’ fabric highlighting segments of the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. The batting fill is ‘Warm and Natural’ brand cotton batting.

“It is such a gift for our supporters to share their talent and pour such effort into a gift to benefit our community media organization. We anxiously awaited the day when we could see the final product of Libby’s handiwork, and it is just stunning,” said Heather Adams, BCTV Executive Director.
