SPARKS Foundation, Members 1st, Penn State Health Bring “Distraction Kits” to Youth in Berks ERs

The S.P.A.R.K.S. Foundation is pleased to announce its collaboration with Members 1st and Penn State Health. Within this collaboration, Members 1st  has funded 250 “distraction kits” for youth that come into the emergency department at Penn State Health.  These kits include science experiments, that are fun, award-winning, and inquiry-based.

Penn State Health is thrilled to introduce these distraction kits! Wendy Clayton, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, of Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center said the following when commenting on our collaboration. “The fast-paced atmosphere and fear of the unknown that often comes with a doctor’s visit or trip to the Emergency Department can cause their anxiety levels to rise. Thanks to the collaboration of Science Explorers and the generosity of Members 1st, we have a fun and educational way to help kids take their minds off what’s happening around them and give them a sense of control over their anxiety. They’re also a great morale booster for our clinicians, who enjoy seeing them bring a smile to the faces of their smaller patients.”

The S.P.A.R.K.S Foundation is grateful for Members 1st  and the key role they have played in launching these distraction kits. “We are excited to partner with Members First to provide these distraction kits to children being cared for in the emergency department,” says Tina Krall, the foundation’s Executive Director. “The kits being provided by Science Explorers are a great way for families to learn and explore together.  We hope these kits are a fun distraction for everyone!”

The S.P.A.R.K.S Foundation is a 501( c )3 science education non-profit that inspires young minds through science.
