Daniel Boone School Board Appoints New Superintendent

Mr. Thomas Voelker has been selected as the new Superintendent of Schools for the Daniel Boone Area School District (DBASD). The Daniel Boone Area School District School Board will make the appointment official at the board meeting on March 27, 2023.

Mrs. Julia Olafson, President of the Daniel Boone Area School District School Board, stated, “We are pleased to announce Mr. Thomas Voelker as the new Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Voelker has spent the past decade of his career in district leadership, building relationships and developing a strong culture centered on the district’s vision, mission, and core values. With his collaborative leadership style, educational experiences including time spent in the Daniel Boone Area School District as a 6th Grade Teacher, a demonstrated passion for students and families, and a thorough understanding of the importance of community and stakeholder engagement, we believe Mr. Voelker is an excellent fit for our District. We are confident Mr. Voelker will continue the tradition of excellence at the Daniel Boone Area School District and will serve our students, staff, and community successfully.”

Mr. Voelker is currently serving as the Assistant Superintendent of the Brandywine Heights Area School District (BHASD), a position he has held since 2012. In his role as Assistant Superintendent, he has excelled in the following areas: strategic planning, curriculum development, instructional design, educational technology, organizational leadership, virtual learning, project management, and more. Prior to this role, he served as the Assistant Principal and Technology Director in the Brandywine Heights Area School District. Mr. Voelker’s other educational experience includes serving as Assistant Principal at the Reading School District, 6th Grade Teacher at the Daniel Boone Area School District, and 4th Grade LTS Teacher within the Reading School District. He is an Apple Educator Award recipient and a #newHEIGHTS Award recipient, which is local staff recognition for BHASD.

The Daniel Boone Area School District (DBASD) covers the borough of Birdsboro and Amity Township and Union Township in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Daniel Boone Area School District is located along the southern border of Berks County, within 15 minutes of Reading to the north, and Pottstown to the southeast. The district serves a population of approximately 18,500 people and covers an area of 42 square miles. The district operates four schools: Daniel Boone Area High School (9-12), Daniel Boone Area Middle School (6-8), Daniel Boone Area Intermediate Center (3-5), and Daniel Boone Area Primary Center (K-2).
