Boyertown Heritage Day: Illuminating the Past

Building a Better Boyertown (BaBB), in conjunction with Boyertown’s historic attractions, is pleased to announce their inaugural history event, Boyertown Heritage Day: Illuminating the Past on Saturday, May 20, 2023, 10:00am-4:00pm. The goal of this event is to highlight Boyertown’s rich history by introducing participants to our museums and other places of interest within the borough under a unifying theme: shedding light on our past to engage and inspire us in the present.

Participants of all ages will explore true historical events by becoming detectives, collecting information from multiple stops within a short walking distance around the town. Using a journal with included map, issued from the Explorer’s Tent to be located in the parking lot of the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles, participants will record their discoveries that help solve “The Case of the Mysterious Woman”. Each location, such as the Boyertown Area Historical Society or the State Theatre, will host a period reenactor to meet with participants to provide information relating to the mystery, as well as share real historic articles and artifacts of the time. When participants have collected all clues and believe they have solved the mystery, they will return to the Explorer’s Tent to be entered to win a prize.

“This is a fun opportunity to get a taste of all the experiences Boyertown has to offer,” states Rachael Kehler, President of Boyertown Area Historical Society. “While collecting the clues, participants see a showcase of our unique museums and attractions that they can come back to visit and explore in more depth.” All of the participating locations are connected, not just as clues to solve the mystery, but as partners in a network of historic preservation. “Each organization gets to celebrate their own part in our heritage,” explains Theresa Heist, BaBB Secretary. “The mystery is a true story. Connecting how each location played a role helps dig a little deeper into the daily life of our past.”

Boyertown Heritage Day is free to attend, and no registration is required. For additional information visit www.buildingabetterboyertown.org/heritageday.
