Foundation for Reading Public Museum Announces New Board Leadership

On April 18, 2023, the Foundation for the Reading Public Museum elected Dr. Anna Weitz to serve as Board Chair and Laurie Peer to serve as First Vice Chair.

Dr. Weitz is President Emerita of Reading Area Community College, an institution she served for 11 years. Prior to moving to Berks County, she was President of Pennsylvania Highlands Community College in Johnstown, PA. In addition to her new role for the Foundation, she will continue to serve on the Executive Committee of the Literacy Council of Reading-Berks and as a designated Community Advisor to the Wyomissing Foundation.

Laurie Peer is Partner/President of RKL Wealth Management LLC and a certified public accountant, financial planner, exit advisor and facilitator. Peer has served as the Foundation’s Board Treasurer since January 2020 and will continue in that role. She also has worked to unite others around a shared vision through leadership roles with the United Way of Berks County, Power of the Purse Charitable Fund, and the Berks County Estate Planning Council.

Dr. Weitz is committed to ensuring the vitality of all aspects of the Museum, including its programs and community outreach. “The Museum has a rich history and a bright future, one that must involve and appeal to an increasingly diverse community,” she said. “It’s a stimulating educational center where works of fine art and an amazing treasure trove of artifacts exist side by side. Our goals continue to be to educate, enlighten, and engage a broad cross-section of our community.”

Peer echoed Dr. Weitz’s commitment and noted that a key part of their new leadership roles is to increase public confidence in the Museum. “We want community members to explore all that the Museum has to offer and know that they can rely on it as a regional hub for learning and connection,” she said.

Commissioner Lucine Sihelnik was welcomed as the new County representative to the Board. Dr. Seth Rosenzweig and Dr. Jerome Marcus continue to serve as Secretary and Asst. Secretary respectively.

The RPM Foundation is an independent non-profit 501(c)(3) organization established in 1991 to operate and manage the Reading Public Museum facilities including the main building, the Neag Planetarium, the 25-acre arboretum, the greenhouse annex as well as the complete collection of artwork and artifacts.
