Berks Community Health Center Names Karen Wang, MD Chief Medical Officer

Berks Community Health Center (BCHC) is proud to announce Dr. Karen Wang as the organization’s chief medical officer effective April 24, 2023.

As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Wang joins the Senior Leadership Team reporting to Mary Kargbo, President and CEO of BCHC.  She is responsible for the coordination and oversight of all medical care and quality of services provided, including clinical policies, protocols and the quality and peer review processes.  She is promoted to the role previously held by Dr. Mary Kelleher.

Joining BCHC in 2019, Wang most recently was the Director of Pediatric Services. “Karen has all of the ideal qualities and experience we are looking for in a chief medical officer for BCHC,” said Mary Kargbo. “Her commitment to our mission and prioritizing quality and patient care will be a tremendous benefit to our organization, and we look forward to working with her to continue the exceptional work already underway here.”

A graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Wang received her MD from the Boston University School of Medicine, where she was honored with the Stephen R. Preblud Memorial Award for top pediatric academic performance in her graduating class. She did her Pediatric internship and residency at the Tufts University-New England Medical Center’s Floating Hospital for Children. After working in private practice and as a school physician, she was most recently a Pediatrician at the Children’s Health Center of Reading Hospital.

Dr. Wang serves as Co-Chair and Advocacy Committee member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Pennsylvania Chapter. She has co-authored several articles including “Implementing Centering Parenting Model with an Urban Pediatric Population to Measure and Improve Clinical Outcomes and Parent Satisfaction” in the Journal of Pediatric Health Care.

Dr. Wang’s commitment to the community is evident in her volunteer efforts as a Board Member of the United Way of Berks County; Board member of VoiceUp Berks and past United Way of Berks County Ready Set Read Board member.
