Respiratory Departments at Phoenixville, Reading Hospitals Named Department of the Year

Phoenixville and Reading Hospitals were both recently recognized for having “Platinum” level Respiratory Departments of the Year by the Pennsylvania Society for Respiratory Care (PSRC). They are seven departments in the state to receive this recognition for the 2022 awards. This is the second year in a row Phoenixville Hospital has been awarded the Platinum level status.

“It’s quite an honor to be recognized by the PSRC,” stated Lee Evans, RRT, Director, Respiratory Care Services, Phoenixville Hospital. “Our Respiratory Therapists work throughout the hospital with a varied population base. To receive this distinction, particularly during COVID, is especially gratifying. It is a testament to everything the staff here at Phoenixville Hospital do every day. This award confirms their respiratory therapy skill level and ability to provide treatments in an effective, and caring manner.”

The PSRC Department of the Year Award recognizes outstanding departments managed and staffed primarily by Respiratory Care Practitioners.

Jennifer Mahone, MHA, RRT-NPS, AE-C, Senior Director of Respiratory, Reading Hospital added, “I’m so proud of the team at Reading Hospital for achieving Platinum status from the PSRC. To know that we’ve been named a ‘Department of the Year’ is important because the team is so committed to the health of their patients and this recognition demonstrates that their dedication is recognized.”

Respiratory Therapists at both hospitals applied to this annual award which includes percentage of staff with advanced degrees, percentage of AARC membership amongst staff, annual competency testing on all equipment, department actively promotes public awareness of Respiratory Care through health fairs, speaking engagement, and community outreach, among other things.

President of the PSRC, Matthew Pavlichko, MS, RRT-NPS, said “The Respiratory Therapists at Phoenixville and Reading Hospitals are very dedicated to their profession and to their community. I’ve known many of them personally for over 20 years, and they are committed to continuing education through the PSRC and providing the best possible care.”
