Berks Library Readers Reach County-Wide Goal to Sponsor Pet Adoption

Agent 007, an eight-year-old black cat, is the lucky recipient of the Pages for Pets adoption sponsorship, Reading District Libraries and the Animal Rescue League of Berks County announced on August 1.

Pages for Pets was a new library initiative hosted by Reading District Libraries as part of their annual summer learning program. Youth from across Berks were challenged to read towards a county-wide goal of 500,000 minutes, with each minute counting toward the financial sponsorship of a pet’s adoption at the Animal Rescue League. Readers surpassed this goal by reading a combined 680,000 minutes.

“Our youth and patrons loved working together on this challenge this summer and are so happy to be able to support the Animal Rescue League,” Marissa Guidara, youth services district consultant for the Reading Library District said. “We are one step closer to finding Agent 007 a forever home.”

Agent 007 is available for adoption, with all adoption fees sponsored. He is described as a “cuddly spy cat” who “enjoys relaxing in his favorite sunbeam and watching the world go by from a cozy windowsill,” according to the Animal Rescue League website.

Agent 007 and many other pets are available for adoption at the Animal Rescue League of Berks County. More information on adoption and other ways you can support the Animal Rescue League can be found on their website, www.berksarl.org.

In addition to “Pages for Pets”, each of the 25 library locations in Berks County hosted a variety of summer learning programs and free activities. For more information on library programming and services, please visit www.berkslibraries.org.
