Penn State Berks Hospitality Management Students to Stage Pop-Up Restaurant Nov. 3

Penn State Berks Hospitality Management Students will stage a pop-up restaurant project, Islandside, “an evening in the Caribbean,” on Friday, Nov. 3, from 5-9 p.m., at Penn State Berks’ Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building Lobby.

Each fall, students in the capstone food production and service management course stage a real-world pop-up restaurant for their semester project. The students conceptualize, develop, implement, and evaluate the single-night restaurant, which is open to the public. This immersive learning design helps soon-to-be-graduating seniors hone critical decision-making and technical skills in creating and delivering high-quality hospitality dining experiences.

This is the 5th pop-up restaurant being staged at Penn State Berks. This year, students conceptualized Islandside, which brings tastes of the Caribbean to Berks County. The students selected this theme as it reflects the diversity in their team as well as within Berks County.

Over a 90-minute service time, diners will be served a five-course dinner accompanied by a signature Islandside mocktail under the guidance of consultant chef Ben Lesnick, Executive Chef, Berkshire Country Club.

Penn State Berks looks forward to welcoming you to Islandside, and thank you for your continued support of our Hospitality Management students and program.
