The Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority (SRPRA) invites members of the media and the public to join for an in-person board meeting on Monday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m. at North Hall 202, Montgomery County Community College, 16 East High St., Pottstown.

SRPRA board members, which include representatives from Montgomery County, Berks County, Chester County, Greater Reading Chamber Alliance, and other governmental and non-profit bodies, will provide updates regarding the planned restoration of a passenger rail line between Reading and Philadelphia.

During the meeting, the board will discuss finance, marketing and public relations, planning, personnel, and community engagement. Opportunities for public comment will be available.

Virtual participation in the meeting will also be available via Zoom. Please note that Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) is not affiliated with the SRPRA meeting. MCCC should not be contacted regarding the program.

The Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority (SRPRA) oversees and implements the restoration of passenger rail service between Reading and Philadelphia and is supported with equal representation and funding from Berks, Chester, and Montgomery Counties. The SRPRA has the power to formalize agreements, pursue funding opportunities, and partner with rail operators and state and federal transportation agencies.

The creation of the SRPRA is not a guarantee that passenger rail will return, but it is a crucial next step to continue the long process of research and planning. Commissioners from each County noted that while there had been talk of restoring passenger rail service before, this is the first time any type of initiative has gotten this far. County leaders are also optimistic that this effort will be successful due to the potential funding available through the federal bipartisan infrastructure bill.
