Jennings Promoted to Full Professor at Albright College

Brian Jennings, Ph.D., Lancaster, PA, has been promoted to Professor of Sociology at Albright College.

Receiving his doctorate from Utah State University, while earning both his Master of Science degree and bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University, professor Jennings joined the Albright College faculty in 2009 as an assistant professor of sociology. He was tenured and promoted to associate professor in 2014.

Since being awarded tenure, Jennings has been actively pursuing scholarship and professional activity that aligns with his teaching — specifically directed at experiential learning and making study abroad more inclusive. This work has led to the launch of Albright’s Global Scholars program, for which he received an IDEAS grant from the Pennsylvania State Department.

Through courses such as Global Social Problems, Methods of Social Research, and Environmental Sociology, much of Jennings’ teaching actively involves students at every step, often getting them out of the classroom, or directly involving them in experiential work when inside of the classroom.

Leading by example, he regularly presents scholarly work at national and international conferences and invited talks, and recently published an article on study abroad and the Autism Spectrum Disorder experience in Frontiers: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Study Abroad. His campus committee assignments include the Institutional Review Board, the Honors and Awards Committee, and the Curriculum Development Committee.

Jennings has also taken on leadership roles in higher education, serving on the board of directors for the Centers for Interamerican Studies and the Association of Academic Programs in Latin America and the Caribbean, where he has served as vice president and president.
