Wyomissing Public Library to Host “Spring Can Not Be Cancelled: A Covid Year in Normandie”

On Saturday, March 2, at 1 p.m., Wyomissing resident and connoisseur of all things French Gail Dawon-White will present a program on one of the greatest artists of modern times, David Hockney, entitled “Spring Can Not Be Cancelled: A Covid Year in Normandie.”

Hockney spent a year in splendid isolation, chronicling the seasons in spite of our isolation. Ms. Dawson-White will show works by Hockney, which were created during the pandemic, and will illustrate his optimism and strong affiliation with nature. He has lived in Normandie since 2019.

Hockney is a multi-disciplined artist whose paintings are renowned for their expression, technique, and dazzling command of color. In addition to paintings, Hockney also created collages made out of photographs. Hockney’s work has continued to evolve, and he has always made use of the latest technology. His work has made use of devices ranging from laser printers to fax machines. More recently, he has created computer paintings using iPads and iPhones. Hockney was recently voted the most influential British artist of the 20th century.

The program is free and open to the public. Registration is requested by visiting the event listing, https://david-hockney.eventbrite.com, or by calling the library at 610-374-2385. Wyomissing Public Library is located at 9 Reading Blvd. in Wyomissing.
