Albright College Adds Music Production Co-Major

Albright College has added an innovative co-major in music production to its full slate of undergraduate majors and minors. Other music-focused academic programs at Albright include a major in music industry studies; co-majors in music industry and vocal performance; and minors in African American music, music industry, and music production.

Students co-majoring in music production will learn the nuts and bolts of music technology and music production, from introductory to advanced techniques in audio mixing and mastering. They will also apply this knowledge through experiential learning labs and commercial music ensembles.

Students will personalize the Albright College music production degree by combining it with a co-major in a second area of interest, such as theatre, game and simulation development, business, fashion, vocal performance, etc. Nearly half of Albright students take advantage of Albright’s distinctive co-major programs, which enable students to cross or combine different programs without taking longer to graduate.

Components of the music production co-major include:

MUSICIANSHIP: Gain a working knowledge of the essential technical aspects of music.

ARTISTRY: Apply the elements of musicianship toward the expressive aspects of music-making with computers.

COLLABORATION: Effectively partner with other singers, instrumentalists, artists, writers, etc., to lead creative processes that aim to elevate the artistry and professionalism of studio recording experiences.

CULTURE: Articulate an understanding of the socio-cultural meanings of music around the world and throughout history.

COMMUNICATION: Think, speak, write, and read critically about the principles of audio engineering.

TECHNOLOGY: Apply a working knowledge of the terms and processes specific to the use of music technology within the contemporary commercial music industry.

Artistically-minded high school students are encouraged to submit portfolios and apply for Albright College Talent Awards in the areas of vocal and instrumental music, as well as creative writing, journalism, electronic digital instrument, music business, arts administration, theatre, visual and digital art, fashion and costume design.
