Screening of ‘Shirley’ and Panel Discussion with Leading Female Elected Officials of Greater Reading

In honor of Women’s History Month, the ReadingFilm Office is proud to announce a collaboration with The Village of Reading, Senator Judy Schwank, and the Reading School District to present a special event celebrating the legacy of Shirley Chisholm and Greater Reading’s female elected officials.

On Friday, March 22, at Reading High School, students will have the opportunity to watch the inspiring biographical movie, “Shirley,” which chronicles Shirley Chisholm’s historic run for the 1972 presidential nomination after becoming the first Black woman elected to Congress. Her courageous journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of breaking barriers.

Following the screening, students will join elected officials for a luncheon and panel discussion. Notable panelists slated to participate include Senator Judy Schwank, State Representative Johanny Cepeda, Berks County Court of Common Pleas Judge Jill Scheidt, Berks County Magisterial District Judges Tonya Butler and Kyley Scott, Reading School Board Members Patricia Wright and Shaykayarira DelRio, Reading City Council President Donna Reed, Reading Auditor Maria Rodriguez, and President and CEO of the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance Lucine Sihelnik. Also, present for the event will be Reading City Council Vice President Melissa Ventura, Magisterial District Judges Carissa Johnson and Priscilla Campos, and Reading School Board Member Patricia Law.

The event is sponsored by the Reading Film Office, The Village of Reading, Reading High School, and the elected officials in the City of Reading.
