The SOS Berks Opioid Coalition and Berks Counseling Center have joined together with 14 other area organizations to sponsor the fifth annual Recovery Awareness Night at the Reading Fightin’ Phils on Thursday, Aug. 13.
This is the third year that SOS Berks and Berks Counseling Center have served as the main sponsors, and the fifth year that a recovery awareness event has been organized in coordination with multiple substance use recovery organizations. Berks County Commissioner Michael Rivera will throw out the first pitch on behalf of SOS Berks.
All participating organizations will set up tables throughout the plaza of FirstEnergy Stadium before the baseball game, providing information on substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery. Organizers will also give away over 500 free Recovery Awareness Night t-shirts on a first-come, first-served basis to attendees.
The baseball game will feature the Reading Fightin’ Phils vs. the Chesapeake Baysox. Gates open at 5 p.m. The game starts at 7 p.m. Fireworks will follow the game.
The goal of the event is to raise awareness that recovery from substance use disorder is possible, and to celebrate those who are living in recovery, as well as the many providers who work to help people in their recovery journeys. The organizations participating also hope to connect more people to their services and draw attention to the fact that support for treatment and recovery is available right here in Berks County.
As the main sponsors of the game, SOS Berks and Berks Counseling Center received 5,000 tickets which were distributed to the general public and to clients of many of the partnering organizations. The tickets afford clients an opportunity to participate in the evening, enjoying the baseball game while also celebrating the journey of recovery made by so many Berks County residents.
Sponsoring organizations include Berks Counseling Center, SOS Berks, YMCA of Reading, Peace & Harmony House, Easy Does It Inc., Caron Treatment Centers, Celebrate Recovery, Clear Vision Health & Wellness LLC, Common Ground Recovery Community, Council on Chemical Abuse, Haven Behavioral Hospital of Eastern Pennsylvania, Mindset Living, PA Adult & Teen Challenge, Project Transition, Recovery Coaching Services, St. Luke’s Penn Foundation, Tower Behavioral Health, and Jersey Ink.
