Borough of Wyomissing Awarded $250,000 for Parklands Creek Restoration

Borough of Wyomissing Awarded $250,000 for Parklands Creek Restoration

From Wyomissing Borough

Wyomissing Borough announced that the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) awarded a $250,000 grant to the Borough to support the restoration of Parklands Creek and improve public access to one of the Borough’s most heavily used natural areas.

The project includes restoration of approximately 1,600 feet of Parklands Creek through streambank stabilization and riparian buffer improvements. Additional work includes new pedestrian boardwalks and trails, pedestrian bridges, ADA-accessible parking, landscaping, signage, and related site enhancements.

“This grant maintains Wyomissing’s natural beauty, while also supporting our residents’ ability to interact with the creek. Projects like this one help keep our Borough beautiful,” said Wyomissing Borough Council President Kristen Gajewski.

Prior to Borough ownership in the 1970s, the Parklands were predominantly agricultural lands surrounding Wyomissing Creek. Today, the Parklands’ wetlands and wooded areas support recreation such as walking, jogging, fishing, birdwatching, and picnicking. The interconnected trail network is its standout recreational feature, drawing heavy use from walkers, runners, and cyclists.

“A strong parks and recreation system supports the residents’ quality of life. Those investments are crucial to a thriving community both economically and in life,” said Interim Borough Manager Eden Ratliff.

Additional project details and construction timelines will be shared as the project advances. For future updates, please follow Wyomissing on Facebook and Instagram or visit wyomissingboro.org.
