Elmwood Park Zoo Live on Zoom: Argentine Black & White Tegu
July 26, 2022 @ 10:30 am - 11:00 am
Join us and Elmwood Park Zoo in our July series of programs you won’t soon forget!
Week 3, we’ll be learning all about the Argentine Black & White Tegu. (Alternate animal will be the Blue-Tongued Skink if the Tegu is unavailable).
In this 30 minute program, we’ll meet an animal ambassador, enjoy a lesson on the Tegu’s natural history, and have time at the end to ask questions.
The Argentine Black and White Tegu is the largest of all tegu species and native to Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina. These fast moving lizards are mainly ground dwellers and are active during the day. Tegus mainly occupy grassland or woodlands but can be found around forest clearings, fences, and roadsides. They winter in burrows or under cover in a hibernation-like state called brumation.
