Schreyer Scholars awarded at Academic Achievement Awards ceremony

Five members of the Penn State Berks graduating class received their Schreyer Honors Medals at the Academic Achievement Awards Ceremony held on Sunday, April 10, 2022. Medals are awarded upon completion of the requirements of the Schreyer Honors College, including a capstone honors thesis.

This year’s Schreyer Honors Medal recipients included:

• Lisa Martin, thesis title: “Predictors of Extremism in College Students.” Thesis Supervisor: Dr. Brenda Russell, professor of psychology
• Rana Moawad, thesis title: “An Inside Look on Eutrophication in the Blue Marsh Reservoir by Identifying Cyanobacteria and their associated toxin genes: A method to use Cyanophages to decrease harmful algal blooms.” Thesis supervisor: Dr. Tami Mysliwiec, associate professor of biology
• G. Michael Shott, thesis title: “Between the Lines: A Hip Hop Autoethnography.” Thesis Supervisor: Dr. Cheryl Nicholas, associate professor of communication arts and sciences
• Destiny Taylor, thesis title: “Who’s Watching: Binge-Watching Behaviors and Media Consumption in the Age of Covid-19.” Thesis supervisor: Dr. Nathan Greenauer, associate professor of psychology
• Ashton Zillhardt, thesis title: “When We Fall: A Young Adult Novel” Thesis Supervisor: Dr. Jeanne Marie Rose, associate professor of English

The Schreyer Honors College’s overall enrollment of 2,000 scholars represents just 2 percent of Penn State University’s undergraduate student population.
