Kayaking 101

$35Muhlenberg Parks & Recreation, along with the assistance of Blue Marsh Outdoors, has organized a basic kayaking 101 course for Saturday, May 21st. This course will teach you about the various types of kayaks; how to enter a kayak; how to paddle; how to re-enter a kayak from the water; etc. Once you have become comfortable in the kayak you will be given the opportunity to take a short float. This course will start at 10AM at the red brick pavilion area at Jim Dietrich Park and will end at 1PM (or sooner if you tire out). All equipment will be returned back to the starting area. The cost is $35/ person and reservations are made by going to www.muhlenbergtwp.com and click on the park program/ facility rental button. Follow the prompts from there. Registration deadline is May 17th. All participant must wear a personal floatation device that will be provided as part of the rental. Please bring with you a hat, sunscreen, dry bag and bottled water. Protect your valuable with a dry bag. A Ziploc bag helps, but is not water proof. If you have equipment you are welcome to join us for a reduced fee. You just need to register so we have the appropriate number of instructors. This class is for beginners, not experienced paddlers. This course is contingent upon safe river conditions the day of the event.
