State Rep. Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz announced that $447,818 has been awarded for projects in the 129th Legislative District.
This grant funding will go toward pedestrian-accessibility safety projects and building improvements for fire and police departments. This state funding comes from the Multimodal Transportation Fund and Local Share Account programs under the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
Funds include:
- $253,580 to West Reading Borough for Ann Street improvements for curbs, sidewalks and adding handicap ramp accesses.
- $88,583 to Sinking Spring Borough for Penn-Hull pedestrian-safety enhancements.
- $52,303 to Spring Township for Police Department building renovations.
- $53,352 to Wyomissing Borough Fire Department for emergency vehicle improvements.
“Out of all the problems one faces daily, one of the last things they should or will think about is the safety of their community,” Cepeda-Freytiz said. “This project may seem small in name, but thanks to this funding, we are creating a safer community for residents and visitors alike. My role as a state legislator is to minimize problems for those I represent as much as possible, and I am proud that this state funding will go toward pedestrian safety, minimizing that worry.”
The Commonwealth Financing Authority approved the grants. The authority was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development to administer Pennsylvania’s economic development programs.
