Aiming to surpass the milestone of 5 million Pennsylvanians registered as organ and tissue donors, Donate Life Pennsylvania (DLPA) announced its third annual PA Donor Day on Jan. 8, 2022. Every 10 minutes, someone is told they need a life-saving transplant. With more than 100,000 people across the U.S. waiting for a transplant nearly 20 will die each day, making the need for more registered organ and tissue donors a public health crisis. PA Donor Day aims to educate and unite Pennsylvanians around the solution.
The fact that one donor can save up to eight lives was the inspiration for the date of January 8 or 1-8. PA Donor Day is a collaboration with DLPA and the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE), Gift of Life Donor Program (GOL), and the Pennsylvania Departments of Health, Education and Transportation.
“PA Donor Day is a unique opportunity to create a unifying moment across the state, a day when we can all work together to encourage our family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and others to learn more about the life-saving impact of organ and tissue donation and to register. It only takes 30-seconds to register online at www.donatelifePA.org,” said Susan Stuart, President and CEO of CORE. “By joining forces, we can create a momentous impact and help make a difference in the lives of the more than 7,000 Pennsylvanians on the transplant wait list.”
“Signing up as an organ and tissue donor is one of the most generous, compassionate and important decisions you can make. Make PA Donor Day your day to register and help us give every child and adult on the waitlist a second chance at life,” said Howard M. Nathan, President and CEO of Gift of Life Donor Program. “We are grateful for every employer, organization and individual already committed to participating in PA Donor Day and encourage all Pennsylvanians to join us in our life-saving mission.”
DLPA invites all employers, organizations, associations, and Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth to join the list of 2022 PA Donor Day participants by going to www.donatelifepa.org/padonorday/ to sign up and learn more.
