Humane Pennsylvania (HPA) will be hosting its first annual No Pet Hungry: Million Meal Challenge two-day donation drive event on Friday, Oct. 6, and Saturday, Oct. 7 in their parking lot at 1729 North 11th St. in Reading, between the Freedom Center for Animal Life-Saving and Humane Veterinary Hospitals Reading. The public is encouraged to drop off a donation of wet or dry dog or cat food on one or both days and enjoy all of the festivities that this two-day event has to offer.
Donations collected during the event will support the animals in HPA’s care, as well as Spike’s Pet Food Pantry, which has distributed almost 100,000 pounds of food, supplies, and litter to families and organizations in need so far this year. Awards and prizes will be presented on both days of the event to recognize and acknowledge individuals, families, and businesses that have collected the most food.
On Friday, Oct. 6, drop off a pet food donation between 12 noon and 7 p.m. and enjoy free dessert generously provided by Sweet Street Desserts, goods from local vendors, HPA merchandise and raffles, yard games, a fun photo booth set-up, and more. Stay for happy hour, live music, and delicious bites from Wich Way Sandwiches food truck, starting at 4 p.m.
On Saturday, Oct. 7, drop off a pet food donation between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to enjoy Saturday’s lineup of family fun including a meet and greet with K-9 Chase and Officer Heckler from Reading Police Department (10 a.m.-12 noon), a meet and greet with Screwball from the Reading Fightin Phils (11-11:30 a.m.), live music, free dessert generously provided by Sweet Street Desserts, delicious bites from Tlacuani Mexican Restaurant food truck, HPA merchandise and raffles, a meet and greet with Slapshot from the Reading Royals (1-3 p.m.), goods from local vendors, a fun photo booth set-up, face painting, yard games, and more.
As part of the No Pet Hungry: Million Meal Challenge, local businesses, organizations, and individuals have generously helped Humane Pennsylvania collect enough pet food to provide more than 100,000 meals to pets in need across Berks and Lancaster Counties so far this year.
