On Tuesday, April 16, at 5:30 p.m., the library will welcome Deborah Gross, Esq., President/CEO of Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts. PMC is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose mission is to educate all Pennsylvanians about the state courts and how to navigate them with confidence. Attorney Gross will focus on threats to the independence of the state’s judiciary and how concerned citizens can take action to defend and preserve judicial independence.
Athletes, coaches, fans, and people merely aware that sports exist will want to come to the library on Wednesday, April 17, at 6 p.m. when Angela Adler, Ph.D., will explore how sports shape society and society shapes sports. Attendees will have the opportunity to identify how they’d like sports to be in the future and what they can do to help that happen.
Dr. Adler is an operations consultant for strategy and performance. At the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a BIG10 school, Dr. Adler taught “Sociology of Sport” to several semesters of undergraduates, including student-athletes, sports broadcasting, journalism, and sports management students. Dr. Adler is a Wyomissing graduate and disabled athlete, currently pursuing a Paralympic classification in swimming.
A representative from the office of Senator Judith L. Schwank will be at the library on Thursday, April 18, from 12 noon to 5 p.m., to assist people with Property Tax forms and Rent Rebate forms. For property tax rebates, individuals need to bring a copy of their 2023 paid property tax and proof of income; for rent rebates, a 2023 rent certificate signed by the landlord and proof of income. For direct deposit of any rebate the routing number and account number of one’s checking or savings account is necessary; first-time applicants need to bring identification.
A new four-week series, Art for Adults, will begin on Friday, April 19, at 1 p.m. Taught by area artist Sara Miller, students will learn how to create an embroidered bookmark, including how to transfer simple patterns, basic embroidery stitches, and finishing techniques. No experience is necessary. The cost of the series is $25, payable on or before April 19. Class size is limited to 15 adults.
