Wernersville Public Library Receives PA Forward Gold Star Status

by Wernersville Public Library

The Wernersville Public Library has been maintaining its gold star status by integrating all five literacies: information, basic, health, financial, social, and civic, since 2022.

Maria Gerasklis-Long, director of the library, stated, “It’s nice to have a guidance grid to help plan out the types of programs that are needed and valued in our local communities. Many of these programs center on ways to help with financial planning, savings, or simply enjoying free instruction and information that would cost an individual a pretty penny.”

The library has done superbly with providing health based programs throughout the course of the past year. In the past year, Target has partnered with the library to provide items for self-care kits for all ages. The kits were well received, and no kit was left after the first week of the initiative. The library took great strides by teaming up with various community helpers to show how everyone has value in our community, which showcased the need for social and civic programming.

The library received its 2024 Gold Star Status on April 2 and looks to keep promoting the five literacies throughout the year.
