100 Households in Pottsville and Schuylkill Haven about to become safer

Losch Services, Inc. of Schuylkill Haven is teaming up with Code Enforcement officers to distribute a combined, 100 Carbon Monoxide detectors to residents of Pottsville and Schuylkill Haven.

Schuylkill Haven, PA – On September 1st Losch Services, of 355 Center Avenue in Schuylkill Haven, kicked off an initiative to give away 50 carbon monoxide (CO) detectors to customers undergoing furnace maintenance. Thanks to immediate positive response, Losch generously decided to increase efforts by donating an additional 50 CO detectors to Pottsville and Schuylkill Haven Code

Enforcement officers, making a combined 100 CO detectors to be distributed to local residents.

Carbon monoxide is an odorless and tasteless gas that can be given off during the burning of fuel. Sources of this deadly gas in the home include furnaces, gas stoves and ovens, kerosene heaters, generators, vehicles and any other appliances that burn fuel. When these items malfunction or are used improperly, they produce CO gas, which is dangerous for both people and animals to inhale. Even more alarming, recent studies have indicated children are more susceptible to lower levels of exposure than adults.

“The fact that malfunctioning home furnaces cause up to 18.5% of all accidental poisonings by carbon monoxide in the US, was reason enough for us to do something for the people of our community” said Butch Young, President and 30+ year employee of Losch Services.

“Code enforcement officers are in a unique position of protecting tenants and the elderly who may lack resources or knowledge to have the proper protection from this deadly risk. By donating the CO detectors, we are providing them an instant opportunity to reduce risks that they find unacceptable for the safety of those in the community most at risk.” Said Young “Code enforcement thought it was a great idea and are happy for our help.”
